Helleborus orientalis ‘Hello Ruby’ Description

Helleborus orientalis ‘Hello Ruby’ forms a compact clump of leathery evergreen or semi-evergreen leaves topped by richly coloured flowers in ruby, wine-red and burgundy shades. The blooms appear from late winter into spring and provide useful pollen at a time when relatively few perennials are flowering. Mature plants generally reach around 30 to 45cm high and wide. Grow in partial shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains moist but drains freely. It performs reliably beneath deciduous shrubs and along woodland borders in Irish gardens. Remove old or damaged leaves as the buds begin to rise, allowing the flowers to be seen clearly. Mulch annually with organic matter and avoid frequent division or transplanting once established. All parts are harmful if eaten.
