Forsythia × intermedia ‘Weekend’ Description

Forsythia × intermedia ‘Weekend’, also known as ‘Courtalyn’, forms a compact, upright deciduous shrub with a dense framework of flowering shoots. Clear golden-yellow blooms open along the bare stems in early spring, providing strong colour before most shrubs have begun active growth. Green oval leaves follow and create useful background foliage through summer. Mature plants generally reach around 1.5 to 2 metres high and wide, making this cultivar easier to manage than many traditional forsythias. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It is hardy and reliable in Irish gardens. Prune as soon as flowering finishes, shortening bloomed shoots and removing occasional older stems from the base. Cutting during winter will reduce the spring flower display.
