Dianthus ‘Oscar Red’ Description

Dianthus ‘Oscar Red’ forms a low, well-branched mound of narrow grey-green foliage topped by numerous bright red carnation-like flowers. Its compact habit, generally around 20 to 30cm high, makes it useful in patio pots, window boxes, rock gardens and along the front of sunny borders. Flowering begins relatively early and can continue through summer when faded blooms are removed. Grow in full sun in fertile, freely draining soil or compost, preferably neutral to alkaline. Water consistently while plants are establishing, but avoid winter waterlogging around the crown. It is hardy in many Irish gardens where drainage is good. A light feed in spring and regular deadheading will help maintain its dense foliage and prolonged colourful display.
