Chrysanthemum Description

Chrysanthemum is a general product name covering bushy flowering plants with aromatic, divided leaves and blooms that may be single, semi-double, pompon-shaped or densely double. Flower colour, eventual size and hardiness will vary according to the selection supplied. Most produce their main display from late summer into autumn, bringing colour to borders and containers as temperatures begin to fall. Grow in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil or compost and water consistently during dry periods. Pinching young shoots encourages bushier growth, while removing faded flowers helps maintain the display. Many commercially supplied chrysanthemums are not reliably hardy through wet Irish winters, so container plants are safest when moved to a bright, frost-free position after flowering.
