Capsicum annuum ‘Cayenne’ Description

Capsicum annuum ‘Cayenne’ is a productive chilli pepper forming bushy plants with green leaves, small white summer flowers and long, narrow fruits. The chillies are generally harvested green or allowed to ripen to bright red, when their heat and sweetness become more pronounced. Use them fresh, cooked, dried or ground into cayenne powder. Start plants indoors and grow them in full sun in fertile, freely draining compost, ideally in a greenhouse, polytunnel or sunny conservatory. Ireland’s outdoor summers are often too cool for reliable ripening without protection. Water regularly, feed once flowers appear and keep temperatures consistently warm. Wear gloves when preparing the ripe fruits and avoid touching the eyes or face.
