Camellia japonica ‘Mark Allan’ Description

Camellia japonica ‘Mark Allan’ forms an upright evergreen shrub with dense, glossy dark green foliage. Large semi-double flowers open during the cooler months in deep wine-red to dark crimson shades, creating a dramatic contrast with the leaves. This cultivar can develop into a substantial shrub and is best used as a specimen or permanent structural plant rather than placed in a restricted border. Grow in partial or filtered shade in fertile, humus-rich acidic soil that remains moist but drains well. It should perform well in mild Irish gardens where protected from cold drying winds and early morning sun. Keep the roots evenly watered during summer and prune only lightly after the flowering display has ended.
