Calceolaria andina ‘Calynopsis Orange’ forms a compact mound of soft green foliage topped with numerous inflated, slipper-shaped orange flowers. Its striking blooms provide cheerful colour during spring, when temperatures are cool and many summer bedding plants have not yet begun flowering. Grow it in a sheltered container, window box or seasonal border display in sun or partial shade. Use fertile, humus-rich compost that retains some moisture while allowing surplus water to drain. Protect the flowers from prolonged heavy Irish rain and keep the plant away from hot, exposed positions. Although it may tolerate a light frost, it should be protected from harder freezing conditions. Remove fading flowers and avoid wetting the foliage excessively when watering.
