Brassica oleracea Capitata Group ‘Offenham’ Description

Brassica oleracea Capitata Group ‘Offenham’ is a traditional spring cabbage with dark green foliage and compact, cone-shaped heads. Plants are commonly sown in late summer, overwintered and harvested the following spring, either young as loose spring greens or later when a firm heart has formed. Grow in full sun in fertile, firm soil that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged. Space plants closely for spring greens or more widely if fully developed heads are wanted. Its winter hardiness makes it particularly valuable in Irish vegetable gardens, where fresh early crops are appreciated. Protect plants from pigeons, slugs and caterpillars and rotate the crop to prevent clubroot and other brassica diseases becoming established in the soil.
