Azalea japonica ‘Snow White’ forms a spreading semi-evergreen shrub with green foliage and a generous late-spring display. Large white funnel-shaped flowers, measuring up to around 4cm across, open during May with subtle yellow-green colouring in the throat. The shrub reaches approximately 80cm high and gradually develops a broad outline. It works well in an ericaceous border, woodland garden or substantial patio container. Grow in partial shade or gentle sun in moist but well-drained acidic soil. Some lower foliage may fall during autumn and winter, which is normal for this variety. It performs well in Irish conditions, but the flowers and shallow roots benefit from shelter against strong wind, drought and intense afternoon sunlight.
