Azalea japonica ‘Isabelle’ Description

Azalea japonica ‘Isabelle’ forms a compact evergreen shrub with small, leathery dark green leaves and a naturally dense, rounded habit. During May, the plant produces a generous display of pink to soft purple-pink trumpet-shaped flowers, often concealing much of the foliage. It generally matures at around 60 to 80cm in height and spread, making it useful for smaller gardens, ericaceous border fronts and large pots. Grow in partial shade or gentle sun in moist but freely draining acidic soil. It is hardy and well suited to Ireland’s cool climate, but the shallow roots need protection from drought. Use ericaceous compost in containers and preferably water with collected rainwater.
