Azalea japonica ‘Dorothy Hayden’ Description

Azalea japonica ‘Dorothy Hayden’ is a compact evergreen Japanese azalea with a dense, bushy habit and small dark green leaves. Generous clusters of white funnel-shaped flowers open in spring, with delicate pale green or yellow spotting adding detail to the upper petals. Growing to around 60 to 90cm high and wide, it is useful for brightening partially shaded ericaceous borders, woodland edges and patio containers. Plant in humus-rich acidic soil that remains moist but drains freely. It is suitable for most Irish gardens, provided it is protected from strong drying winds and prolonged waterlogging. Use rainwater where possible and mulch annually to conserve moisture around the shallow roots.
