Acer palmatum ‘Yubaba’

Acer palmatum ‘Yubaba’ brings the refined form and seasonal interest associated with Japanese maples to smaller garden settings. Its palm-shaped leaves are carried on a finely branched framework, creating a light canopy through spring and summer before developing warmer tones in autumn. It works well as a standalone specimen, within Japanese-style planting or in a large container on a sheltered patio. Grow it in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, avoiding exposed positions where strong or salt-laden winds could damage the foliage. Keep the roots evenly moist during dry periods and apply a loose organic mulch in spring. Little pruning is required beyond removing dead, damaged or crossing growth while the plant is dormant.
